New Delhi: In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar, 4 people drowned in the Harsul lake. This water body is located on the outskirts of the town. Those who drowned were reportedly young people and had come to the lake to spend their day off.
Youth came to lake to spend their Sunday: Police
According to reports, 3 friends came to Harsul lake to spend their Sunday afternoon. They entered the water for a swim. Initially it was believed that 3 people had drowned.
A rescue team was called in by the locals, who spotted the youth drowning. The fire department, along with expert lifeguards entered the water to pull out the youth. However, none of the 3 survived. As the rescue operations were on, locals told the fire department that a fourth person was drowning on the other side of the lake. According to a report in a Marathi Daily, the youth had lied to their parents at home and came to the lake.
The rescue team then rushed to the other side of the lake. They recovered another body from here. The man had reportedly jumped into the water to die by suicide. He could also not be saved by the fire department officials.
Two of the deceased have been identified. They were Afan Khan and Adil Sheikh. Efforts are on to identify the other youth, who drowned in the lake. Meanwhile, the police have sent the body to Ghati Hospital for a post mortem.
Investigations are on in the matter, said police officials.
