Mahabharat Katha: This princess’s determination became the reason for the downfall of grandfather Bhishma, know the interesting story

Story of Mahabharat Amba: The war of Mahabharata lasted for 18 days. This war between Pandavas and Kauravas was the result of karmas and curses accumulated over the years. In this war, the Padvas standing on the side of religion were victorious. The turning point of this war was when grandfather Bhishma lay down on his bed. Bhishma Pitamah remained on his bed for 58 days. He sacrificed his life when the Sun was Uttarayan, but do you know that the reason for Bhishma’s downfall or end was a princess? Let us know this interesting story.

According to the story of Mahabharata, for the marriage of Satyavati and Shantanu’s son Vichitravirya, Bhishma Pitamah had forcefully abducted the three daughters of Kashiraj – Amba, Ambika and Ambalika. After this, eldest daughter Amba told Bhishma that she had accepted King Shalva as her husband in her heart. On this, Bhishma Pitamah sent Amba to Shalva with respect, but destiny had something else in mind.

Amba wandered from door to door

King Shalva refused to accept the woman abducted by a stranger. Amba came back and asked Bhishma to marry her. Then Bhishma cited his vow of celibacy and refused to marry Amba. After this Amba wandered from door to door and suffered a lot of insults. Finally he sought help from Lord Parashurama.

After this, there was a war between Parashuram and Bhishma Pitamah, but Bhishma was not defeated. Ultimately Amba performed rigorous penance for Lord Shiva. Then when God was pleased and asked him to ask for a boon, he asked for a boon from Lord Shiva that he should become the reason for Bhishma’s death. Lord Shiva said that this would be possible only in the next life. Hearing this, Amba left her body.

Amba was born as Shikhandi

In her next birth, Amba took the form of Shikhandi in the house of King Drupada. Drupada raised him like a son and also got him married to a girl, but after the reality came to light, Shikhandi’s wife left him. According to the legend, with the help of a Yaksha, Shikhandi attained manhood, after which he became a skilled warrior.

On the tenth day of the Mahabharata war, Arjun made Shikhandi sit on his chariot. Seeing Bhishma Pitamah, Shikhandi came forward. As soon as Bhishma saw Shikhandi in front, he gave up his weapons. He argued that Shinkhadi is a woman. Shri Krishna said that Shikhandi was brought up like a man. He also has masculinity, but Bhishma remained firm on his ideals and put down the bow.

Arjun rained arrows on Bhishma

Shikhandi continuously attacked Bhishma, but his arrows did not have enough power to penetrate the impenetrable armor of the grandfather. Then Arjun took cover of Shikhandi and started showering arrows on Bhishma. At last Bhishma fell on the bed of arrows and thus Amba’s revenge against Bhishma Pitamah in the form of Shikhandi was completed.
