BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday said that Jain religious leader Acharya Samay Sagar Maharaj will be invited to address a special session of the House, to be convened for this specific purpose.
Addressing the ‘Kalash Sthapana (establishment of sacred pot)’ ceremony, marking the commencement of the ‘Chatumas (Holy four-month period during the monsoon season dedicated to fasting, penance, and spiritual discipline)- 2026 of Jain saint Acharjya 108 Samay Sagar Maharaj here, Mr. Yadav announced that the state government will convene a one-day special session of the House and invite the religious leader to deliver a discourse in the Assembly , enabling all legislators, public representatives, officers, and employees to ‘receive his guidance and blessings’.
This will be the first time a religious leader will address the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.
He indicated that the initiative reflected his government’s commitment to show respect for all religions and their beliefs, which reinforced the passing of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the state Assembly.
“While respecting all religions and their beliefs, the state government has passed the Uniform Civil Code Bill in Madhya Pradesh”, he said.
Mr. Yadav said that India is the custodian of the noble civilizational ethos of ‘Live and Let Live’.
He said that the guidance, support, and blessings of the saints lead people on the path of righteousness and divinity.
The chief minister described the Jain saint as a living embodiment of spiritual divinity, and said that the Acharya’s ‘Chatumas’ in Bhopal are a matter of fortune and blessings for the people of Madhya Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, the Acharjya said that the principle of ‘ahimsa’ (nonviolence) does not belong to any religion but is a universal value.
