Maddison inspires Spurs’ first EPL winComeback from ACL injury sparks 3-1 victory over Coventry; Tottenham climb to 16th spot

Tottenham beat Coventry City 3-1 for their first Premier League win of the season, climbing off the bottom of the table after a long wait.

James Maddison, making his first start in 536 days after missing last season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, put Spurs ahead with a superb strike against his boyhood club in the 14th minute.

Jack Rudoni equalised for Coventry four minutes into the second half, raising fears that Tottenham’s winless run would continue. However, Omar Marmoush restored the hosts’ lead with a curling effort for his first goal since joining from Manchester City in the summer.

Ben Davies sealed the points with a low drive in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
