The road movie Maareesan, starring Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil, is premiering on Netflix on August 22, less than a month after its theatrical release on July 25. The Tamil film will also be dubbed in the Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
Written by V Krishna Moorthy, Maareesan also stars Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka and Saravana Subbiah.
Maareesan to premiere on Netflix
Netflix India posted the digital release date of the Tamil film and wrote, “Get in guys, we are going to Thiruvannamalai. Watch Maareesan on Netflix, out 22 August in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam!” The Tamil thriller sees Fahadh Faasil as a thief named Dhayalan who accompanies an amnesiac patient (Vadivelu) on a road trip. Dhayalan is sticking with Vadivelu’s Velayudham Pillai to steal a large sum of money from his account. But he does not anticipate Velayudham Pillai’s true origins.
Vadivelu and Fahadh had earlier worked together on the Tamil film Maamannan (2023) and reunited for this second project. Maareesan features music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has been produced by RB Choudary for Super Good Films.
Recently, veteran actor Kamal Haasan reviewed the film and stated, “Watched Maareesan – a film that dances effortlessly between wit and depth, leaving me laughing, thinking, and admiring its craft. Had a wonderful conversation with the team to congratulate them on this delightful creation.”
He added, “Beneath its humour lies a socially conscious lens on human emotion and a keen gaze at the darker shadows of our society. The kind of inventive, spirited cinema I naturally gravitate towards, both as a viewer and creator.
Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming projects
Fahadh reprised his role as SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat in Pushpa 2: The Rule last year. His next film will be the Malayalam rom-com Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, directed by Althaf Salim. Co-starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Revathi Pillai, it is due to be released on August 29, 2025 for Onam. He is filming the Telugu film Don’t Trouble The Trouble and the Malayalam features Karate Chandran and Patriot.
