The first Navratri is recited and listened to the story of Maa Shailputri, which includes mother Sati not to bear insulting her husband Lord Shiva in a yajna organized by King Daksha and jumping into Yogagni. After this, Mata Sati was born as the daughter of the Himalayas and she was called mother Shailputri. The purpose of this story is to remind the devotees to remember the power form of Maa Durga and to worship the first form of Navadurga.
Which story is read on the first day of Navratri?
According to the legend of the first day of Navratri, Goddess Shailputri was the daughter of Prajapati Daksha in the previous birth. Daksha Prajapati organized a yajna, in which he invited all the deities except Lord Shiva.
Daksha Prajapati, the purpose of not inviting his daughter and son -in -law, was to insult Lord Shiva, which was included in his plan by Daksha. Mother Sati was distraught to go to her father’s sacrifice, but Lord Shiva tried to stop him from going without invitation. Mother Sati sat stubbornly and went there despite Shiva’s insistence.
On reaching the yagna, no one gave respect to Mother Sati and her father Daksha insulted Lord Shiva in a yajna filled. Mata Sati became angry due to not being able to bear the insult of her husband in all and he got angry and jumped into the same yagna kund and gave up his life.
After this, Goddess Sati was born in the next life as the daughter of Parvatraj Himalayas. Being the daughter of the mountain, she was named ‘Shailputri’. On the first day of Navratri, this first form of Maa Durga is worshiped on the first day.
