New Delhi: The lynching of Dipu Das, a garment worker in Bangladesh created a raging storm. He was killed in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka and it triggered a massive controversy.
Government gives compensation
The government has given his family compensation in savings certificates worth Tk 2.5 million (which is around Rs 18,52,000). The family got the documents on Monday through the office of former Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, according to a report by Dhaka Tribune.
Later, the family members of Dipu Das, informed at a press briefing in Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall about receiving the funds and thanked the interim administration. Also, they reiterated their call to bring the perpetrators in the murder case to justice.
Dipu’s family demands justice
According to the report by Dhaka Tribune, Dipu’s mother, Shefali Rani Das, has urged authorities for job for his widow. Also, she said that the family is not satisfied with how investigation of the case. His father, Robi Lal Chandra Das, and his widow, Meghna Rabidas, have also demanded justice.
The lynching of Dipu Das
Dipu Das, who worked in Pioneers Knitwears Limited, was lynched in December 2025 after being dragged from his workplace. The perpetrators later hung his naked body from a tree along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and set in on fire.
Dipu was among the several Hindu people killed ahead of the Bangladesh elections. The spate of atrocities on the Hindu minority community in Bangladesh raised concerns in India as well. However, Yunus rebuffed those concerns and called the attacks “political”.
