Luis Enrique Urges Paris Saint-Germain To Improve Despite Winning Against Le Havre

Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, Luis Enrique, acknowledges that his team can still improve despite their recent 3-0 victory over Le Havre, which returned them to the top of Ligue 1. PSG had been overtaken by Marseille before their match at Parc des Princes but managed to secure a two-point lead with goals from Lee Kang-In, Joao Neves, and Bradley Barcola.

PSG’s performance was dominant, as they recorded an expected goals (xG) total of 3.49 from 31 shots. However, Le Havre’s goalkeeper, Mory Diaw, made eight crucial saves to prevent a more lopsided scoreline. Despite this, Le Havre posed some challenges with 12 shots of their own, four of which required PSG’s Lucas Chevalier to intervene.

Luis Enrique praised his team’s defensive efforts against Le Havre. PSG have now achieved five clean sheets in six home matches in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season. This is already one more than they managed in 17 home games last season. The defence played a crucial role in maintaining their position at the top of the table.

Despite the win, Luis Enrique emphasised the need for improvement ahead of their Champions League clash with Tottenham on Wednesday. He noted the challenges of managing players’ conditions after international breaks and highlighted the importance of securing results while striving for better performances.

PSG’s current tally stands at 30 points after 13 matches in the 2025-26 season (W9 D1 L1). This marks the fifth consecutive season they’ve reached this point total at this stage. Since the 2021-22 season, only Lens have matched this achievement in Ligue 1 with 30 points after 13 matches during the 2022-23 season.

The Parisiens have also secured their 46th victory across all competitions in 2025 (D6 L8). Only in 2017 did they achieve more wins within a calendar year (48), surpassing their previous best of 45 wins in 2015.

Challenges After International Breaks

Luis Enrique acknowledged that matches following international breaks are often tricky due to player fatigue and travel demands. “It’s always difficult to manage things after an international break,” he said. “You have to control each player’s minutes, their condition, the journeys they’ve made.”

He expressed satisfaction with the result against Le Havre but stressed that precision was lacking in the first half. “I think we lacked precision,” he stated. “But the result is good, and these three points are very important for us.”

The manager remains focused on improving team performance while recognising that immediate results are crucial as they prepare for upcoming fixtures. “We need to keep improving,” he added.

Reflecting on their recent match, Luis Enrique remarked on its difficulty despite what the scoreline might suggest: “It was a really tough match. From the outside, seeing 3-0, you might think it was a comfortable win, but that wasn’t the case at all.”

He concluded by expressing satisfaction with maintaining their league position and achieving a clean sheet: “I’m happy. We won 3-0; we kept a clean sheet and stayed top.”
