However, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert regarding fog in the city. The Meteorological Department estimates that there is no possibility of the fog reducing for the next two to three days. Due to this, ‘cold day’ like conditions will persist during the day also. Due to the effect of western jet stream active in the anti-cyclone formed in North India, dense fog conditions are prevailing in Uttar Pradesh.

Along with cold, fog and poor air quality have also disrupted life in Lucknow. The average AQI in the capital was recorded at 158, while the night time air quality index remained above 350, which still falls in the severe category.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in 22 districts of UP regarding fog. These include Agra, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Shamli, Baghpat, Bareilly, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Etawah, Firozabad, Etah, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hathras, Mathura, Meerut, Hapur, Pilibhit, Rampur and Shahjahanpur. People living in these areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution while driving.
