‘Lucknow to Kanpur in 30 minutes’: New expressway in UP set to open soon

New Delhi: In a good news for commuters travelling on the Lucknow–Kanpur highway, the 63 km long Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway has been completed and is expected to open to public within a month.

The expressway will reduce the travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur from 1.5–3 hours to around 30 minutes. NHAI in a statement said that it will save time and fuel for commuters.

‘Corridor designed to ease congestion’

The e-way has been built with modern engineering standards, robust safety systems, flyovers, underpasses, and planned rest areas. “The corridor is designed to ease congestion, improve logistics efficiency, and support economic growth,” the NHAI statement read further.

The highway authority further said that beyond connectivity, the expressway will also benefit farmers, students, businesses, and industries by improving access to markets, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Six-lane expressway built at cost of Rs 4k cr

The six-lane expressway project was delayed by eight months and was executed in two phases at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore. Around 18 km of the route is elevated, while 45 km has been developed as a greenfield stretch.

There are three major bridges and 28 smaller bridges for crossing rivers and streams. A total of 38 underpasses have also been constructed on the route.

Route of the new expressway

The expressway begins at Jajmau area in Kanpur and passes through important locations in Unnao before reaching Lucknow.

To ensure advanced traffic management, the expressway is equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System, featuring 63 PTZ cameras, 21 interchange cameras, and 16 video incident detection system cameras.
