India Post Registry Service Stopped: Indian Postal Department has decided to close the registry service from 1 September 2025. Now speed post service will be used instead, which will make trekking and delivery faster and easier.

The Indian Postal Department has decided that this service will be discontinued from 1 September 2025. For about 148 years, this service related to public sentiments and government processes will now remain in memories only.
Why is the registry service being closed?
Post Master General Sunil Kumar of Lucknow said that this decision has been taken by the Union Ministry of Communications. He informed that the registry service will now be merged into the speed post service. This means that the works that were done earlier through the registry will now be completed through speed post.
One of the major reasons for this decision is that the speed post is not only delivered in a short time, but also provides trekking facilities. That is, now people will be able to know where their letter or document has reached.

Registry Post: Not only one service, symbol of emotions
By the 2000s, the registry post had its own different status. Whether to send rakhi, give appointment letter of government job, or court notice, registry post was the first choice. Every post office used to have a separate counter for this. The process ranging from receipt to acknowledgment made it very reliable. It was not just a postal service, but an important part of people’s feelings and government functioning. From school to army, the registry post in every field has done the work of connecting people.
Now what option will people have?
The registry service may be closing, but its option will be available as speed post service. The postal department believes that speed post has now become a more convenient and modern service. The delivery deadline is fixed in it, and each stage can be tracked online. All government departments, courts and common citizens have been asked to use only speed post service from 1 September 2025. The registry service will be operational as before 31 August.
Registry post service will be recorded in history
When the Indian Postal Department started during British rule in 1854, this service has been needed since then till today. The Registry Post Service, which started in 1877, has played a big role in the social, administrative and emotional engagement of the country. Now that this service is ending, it is not only the end of an arrangement, but also the end of an emotional chapter.
