Lucknow, 29 October. The weather has suddenly taken a turn in Uttar Pradesh. The active cyclone ‘Montha’ in the Bay of Bengal and the pressure in the Arabian Sea have dropped the temperature in the entire state. In the capital Lucknow, cold like December is being felt in the month of October itself. People are seen taking help of bonfire in the morning and night. Weather experts say that the cold will increase further in the coming few days, while there is a possibility of rain in many districts of Eastern UP.
Temperature in Lucknow 4 degrees below normal
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature of Lucknow was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius, which was about 4 degrees less than normal. The minimum temperature was around 20 degrees. The movement of clouds throughout the day and cold winds blowing at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour had already given the feeling of winter in the capital. Meteorologists say that this change in the current weather is the result of marine activities, which is affecting the entire North India.

Cyclone ‘Montha’ and pressure of Arabian Sea became the reason for cold
According to meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, humidity has increased in the state due to the cyclone ‘Montha’ formed in the Bay of Bengal and the active low pressure area in the Arabian Sea. Due to this, it is cloudy and due to less sunlight the temperature continues to fall. The temperature may drop further in the coming 24 hours.
Lucknow’s air becomes ‘bad’, AQI crosses 200
Amidst the cold and humidity, the air of the capital is also getting worse. The air quality index (AQI) in Aliganj area was recorded at 203, which is in the ‘poor’ category. The air quality in Talkatora (183), Lalbagh (182), Gomtinagar (122), Kukrail (111) and Ambedkar University (109) remained in the ‘moderate’ category. Lucknow’s average AQI was recorded at 130 at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, indicating the impact of pollution along with cold winds.
Weather may improve in next 48 hours
According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will continue to fall for the next 24 hours, but after 48 hours the mercury is likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees. However, there will be a possibility of light to moderate rain with gusty winds over eastern and southern UP between October 29 and 31.
Heavy rain alert in Varanasi and Mirzapur
On October 30, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in some districts of Varanasi and Mirzapur divisions. The Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid traveling unless necessary and stay safe at home.
