New Delhi: The Indian Army will implement key leadership changes from April 1 as senior officers take up new roles across major commands. According to official information, Southern Army Commander Lt Gen Dheeraj Seth will assume charge as the next Vice Chief of Army Staff in New Delhi.

The current Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen PP Singh will take over as the Western Army Commander on the same day. The reshuffle will also affect other top operational commands of the Army.

Changes in major Army commands

The Eastern Army Command will see a new leadership appointment. Lt Gen VMB Krishnan will take charge as the next General Officer Commanding in Chief of the command.

At the same time Lt Gen Sandeep Jain will assume responsibility as the new Southern Army Commander. These changes form part of the regular leadership rotation within the Indian Army.

Senior military leadership roles such as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and Army Commanders play a major role in overseeing operations, planning and strategic decisions.

Unit citations presented for operational excellence

Earlier this year, on February 6, Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen PP Singh presented Unit Citations to six Indian Army units for their distinguished service. The awards recognised outstanding operational work in different regions.

One of the units honoured was the Intelligence and Field Security Unit deployed in the Leh Ladakh region. The ceremony took place on February 5 during events linked to Army Day.

Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh presented the citation to the unit’s Commanding Officer Colonel Jitendra Singh and Subedar Major Mandeep Singh.

Recognition for service along lac

According to an army official, the Intelligence and Field Security Unit has operated in the sensitive Eastern Ladakh region for the past two years. The unit works in areas located near the Line of Actual Control between India and China.

The citation recognised the unit’s operational performance and dedication to duty in difficult conditions. Soldiers carried out tasks in high altitude terrain and harsh weather.

Their work included gathering field intelligence, maintaining surveillance and supporting security operations in the region.

Among highest honours in the army

Unit Citations are among the highest collective awards given by the Indian Army. These honours recognise formations and units that display exceptional service, operational capability and discipline during challenging missions.

Officials said such recognitions encourage troops deployed in demanding areas to maintain high standards of professionalism and dedication.
