New Delhi: Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a deal worth £125 million. The two clubs finalised terms late on Sunday, paving the way for the Sweden international to undergo a medical on Monday before completing a six-year contract at Anfield.
It brings an end to weeks of speculation over Isak’s future with the Reds finally landing their top attacking target of the summer after an earlier bid of £110 million was turned down. The 24-year-old had been clear about his desire to join Arne Slot’s squad and Newcastle eventually softened their stance once their own forward options were reinforced.

From rejected bids to breakthrough deal
Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak has dominated much of the summer window. Talks were reignited in the build-up to deadline day, particularly after Newcastle brought in German striker Nick Woltemade which gave the Merseyside club encouragement to return with an improved offer.
Behind the scenes, tensions had grown as Isak had even taken to Instagram to voice his frustrations claiming the Magpies had broken promises and that trust between him and the club had eroded. The club dismissed those claims at the time but privately accepted that a sale would only happen if their valuation was met.
That moment has now arrived with Liverpool striking a £125 million agreement that both parties consider satisfactory. It marks one of the most expensive transfers in British football history and cements Isak as a central figure in Slot’s new-look attack.
Record-breaking summer at Anfield
Isak’s arrival follows the £116 million signing of Florian Wirtz earlier in the window which means Liverpool have twice broken their transfer record in the space of a few months. The Sweden forward is expected to be handed the famous No. 9 shirt once his move is confirmed.
He will join a frontline already featuring Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and highly rated teenager Rio Ngumoha. With such depth, Slot will have options across all competitions as Liverpool aim to build on their title-winning campaign.
For Isak, this transfer is the culmination of a long push to secure a move he wanted. For Liverpool, it is the statement signing of the summer and one that could define their ambitions for years to come.
