Lionel Messi to join Cristiano Ronaldo? Saudi Pro League club plots move for Argentine icon

New Delhi: Lionel Messi could be on his way to Saudi Arabia amid uncertainty over his future at Inter Miami. The Argentine ace’s current deal with Inter Miami will expire at the end of 2025, and his potential future move has become one of the major talking points in world football. Messi is reportedly in talks with a Saudi club Al-Ahli over a possible transfer.

As per a report in French publication L’Equipe, Al-Ahli are currently in talks with Messi and are trying to convince the Argentine superstar to join the club. The details of the financial offer made by the Saudi Pro League club remain unknown. The 38-year-old, who joined MLS side Inter Miami in 2023, has enjoyed a successful stint at the club with 52 goals and 25 assists in just 64 appearances.

This is not the first time Messi has been linked with a move to a Saudi Pro League club. In 2023, the Barcelona legend was in talks for a move to Al-Hilal, who also made a huge offer to sign him. However, Messi turned down the offer and decided to join Inter Miami. Al-Hilal then went on to sign Neymar Jr, who has left the club and joined Santos in Brazil.

If Al-Ahli manage to convince Messi for a transfer this time around, the Argentine will reunite with his arch-rival Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League. He will also join the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney, who are currently part of the Al-Ahli squad. Ronaldo recently renewed his contract with Al-Nassr and is set to play in the Saudi Pro League for another two years.
