Especially when they are not eaten after cooking or washing them properly. We eat some vegetables raw in the form of salad, but not every vegetable is meant to be eaten raw. Many of these vegetables may contain dangerous bacteria, tapeworms, which can lead to serious gut issues. Not only this, some bacteria can even affect the brain. Health expert Dimple Jangra, in an Instagram post, has told about such vegetables which should never be eaten raw.
taro leaf
Like taro, many types of dishes are also made from its leaves. However, taro leaves should never be eaten raw. Many dangerous bacteria, pathogens and tapeworm eggs may be present on their surface, which remain there even after washing. If eaten raw, they can cause serious gut issues. Therefore, it is better to boil them lightly, blanch or steam them before eating.
Spinach and Kale Leaves
Health experts say that spinach and kale leaves may also contain dangerous pathogens, parasites like tapeworm eggs, larvae, ova, which can enter your bloodstream and cause serious health issues. Not only this, they also contain high amount of oxalate, hence eating them in large quantities can lead to the risk of kidney stones. Therefore, it is better to lightly boil, steam or cook them before eating them.
Cabbage
Cabbage has the highest risk of containing tapeworm eggs. Actually, the shape of cabbage is such that eggs remain safe. If eaten raw, these eggs can enter your blood and even enter your brain. This can cause serious issues like epilepsy and blackouts. Therefore, it is better to always eat cabbage only after lightly cooking it.
Capsicum
Dimple says that the seeds present in capsicum look exactly like tapeworm eggs and sometimes they can also be eggs. Many times this can happen due to adulteration of soil, fertilizer, water etc. Therefore, before eating capsicum, remove its seeds, then wash it thoroughly with water and eat it. It would be better if you cook it.
Eggplant
Many types of parasites, eggs, ova and cysts can also be present in brinjal. In many cultures, eating brinjal is completely avoided, because all these things are found in abundance in brinjal. Therefore, it is very important to boil, cook or steam it thoroughly before eating it.
