‘Let’s get rid of INEOS’: Man United captain Bruno Fernandes’ X account hacked as club issues statement

New Delhi: Manchester United have confirmed that Bruno Fernandes’s X account was hacked after a series of posts appeared on the club captain’s official profile that were quite controversial, including calling for the club’s owners, INEOS, to be removed.

The unusual activity on the midfielder’s X account started around 11 PM GMT, with his feed flooded with a rapid series of posts. At first, the messages were focused on cryptocurrency, including claims about launching a new digital token, before the topic changed towards money, with one now-deleted post saying: “This is why I need to get paid more.”

The posts then shifted towards Manchester United’s on-field problems, with one message stating the club as being “in the dumps,” while the second was directed at the club owners “, INEOS”, calling for their removal.

The incident happened after Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 1-2 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday. The further messages on Bruno’s feed continued, tagging adult star Bonnie Blue and a reference to the England cricket team.

Fernandes has 4.5M Followers on X and is not a very active user. His last genuine post on the platform was on October 26, 2025, when he played his 300th match for Manchester United.

Earlier this week, Fernandes shared a short message on Instagram for head coach Ruben Amorim, thanking the former manager and showing respect despite the tough season. Many United players also posted tributes for the Portuguese manager.
