The Chief Justice of the country (CJI) Justice BR Gawai today (Monday, July 21) asked the Central Agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) to let politicians fight political battles among the public and the ED -like agency should not be used in this fight.
He made this comment in a case of money laundering associated with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife. In fact, the ED challenged the Karnataka High Court verdict in the apex court, in which the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) ordered the cancellation of the investigation against Siddaramaiah’s wife BM Parvati regarding alleged irregularities related to illegal land allocation.
The case was heard by CJI Justice BR Gawai and Vinod Chandran of Justice. Meanwhile, refusing to consider the petition of the Enforcement Directorate, CJI verbally said, “Let the political battle be fought between voters. Why are you (ED) being used for this?”
CJI said- Do not open my mouth…
According to the report of Live Law, CJI Gawai told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appearing on behalf of ED, “Mr. Raju, please do not force us to open our mouths. Is being used? “
SC dismisses ED’s petition
Along with this, the Supreme Court gave relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife BM Parvati and dismissed the petition of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed against her. The bench refused to intervene in the Karnataka High Court’s March 7 order in the case, in which the summons issued by the ED to Parvati and others was canceled. The apex court, after hearing the arguments of the concerned parties, dismissed the ED’s appeal petition, saying, “We do not see any error in the arguments adopted in a single bench.
ED bid- We are withdrawing the petition
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who is presenting the ED after this stance of the apex court, said, “Well, we (petition) will withdraw, but it should not be considered as an example.” It is worth noting that a single bench of Justice M Nagprasanna of Karnataka High Court had canceled the summons issued by the ED to State Minister Birathi Suresh.
