As anticipation builds for the release of Cocktail 2, Kriti Sanon has firmly shut down rumours suggesting the film revolves around a lesbian romance. Addressing the speculation during a promotional event, the actor clarified that the relationship dynamics in the film have been widely misunderstood.
The conversation began when an audience member brought up reports claiming that Kriti and Rashmika Mandanna’s characters were romantically involved. While Rashmika burst into laughter at the suggestion, Kriti responded directly, saying, “There is no lesbian story.” Rashmika then added that although the two characters share strong chemistry on screen, the film is not centred on a same-sex romance.
What did Kriti and Rashmika say about the rumours?
Responding to the ongoing chatter, Rashmika acknowledged the bond between the two female leads, saying, “I know, we do have that chemistry.” She then clarified the nature of the relationship portrayed in the film.
“We are three straight people, guys. It’s only an emotional threesome, not physical,” she said, referring to the film’s three central characters. The actors’ remarks come after weeks of speculation fuelled by the trailer and reports about the storyline.
What is Cocktail 2 about?
Directed by Homi Adajania, in the lead roles. The trailer hints at a story driven by love, friendship, emotional conflict and drama, while also incorporating moments of humour.
One of the trailer’s standout moments features Shahid’s character describing love as a torn T-shirt that people keep returning to because it feels comfortable. The film also showcases the close bond between Kriti and Rashmika’s characters as they compete for the affection of Shahid’s character, who jokingly refers to himself as the “Kohinoor”.
How does the sequel connect to the original film?
Released in 2012, Cocktail starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, and became known for its music and complicated relationship dynamics. Fourteen years later, the sequel appears to revisit similar emotional territory while introducing a new trio and a fresh setting.
