Leeds United Suffer First Away Defeat To Millwall As Sunderland Draw Again

Leeds United experienced their first away loss since April, falling to Millwall and losing momentum in the Championship race. Despite Sunderland’s draw, Leeds needed a win to reclaim an automatic promotion spot after Sheffield United’s victory.

However, they were defeated 1-0 by Millwall, with Japhet Tanganga scoring in the first half. This result propelled Millwall to fifth place, just four points behind Leeds.

Leeds now trails Sunderland by four points at the top of the table. The gap could have been larger if Sunderland had managed a win against Preston North End. Like their previous match against Queens Park Rangers, Sunderland ended in a goalless draw away from home. Jobe Bellingham’s suspension following a red card against QPR led to further changes by coach Regis Le Bris.

Preston remains close to the relegation zone, alongside Luton Town and Cardiff City. Luton secured a 1-0 victory over Cardiff with Jacob Brown’s goal. Meanwhile, Coventry City suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Derby County, and Stoke City triumphed 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers.

Sunderland’s inability to secure victories has kept them from widening their lead at the top. Coach Le Bris acknowledged the challenges of the league but remained optimistic about earning points on the road. Meanwhile, Preston’s position near relegation highlights the competitive nature of this season’s Championship battles.

The Championship standings remain tight as teams jostle for position both at the top and near relegation. With several matches still to play, every point gained or lost could prove crucial in determining final placements in this fiercely contested league season.
