Le Chat by Mistral AI gets major features: Deep research mode, projects and more

New Delhi: The French AI startup Mistral has released a huge update to its chatbot, Le Chat, adding new capabilities that can compete with the leading AI actors such as OpenAI and Google. It has a new “deep research” mode, native multilingual reasoning, enhanced image editing and a new feature called Projects that can be used to organise workspaces. These additional features are meant to make Le Chat a more serious application for personal and business purposes.

This release follows the recently released Voxtral, the first open-source audio model with multilingual reasoning capabilities and transcription capabilities, announced by Mistral only a few days ago. Le Chat also recently added Voxtral, and this is a major step toward Mistral aiming to scale its modalities of AI.

Deep research mode for smarter insights

The new deep research mode being offered by Le Chat enables the chatbot to scan the internet, plan, and synthesise the information available on a vast variety of websites and articles. Mistral describes it as a virtual research assistant, which can compare travel plans or carry out an in-depth market analysis. This capability, Elisa Salamanca, Mistral Head of Product, said, is going to be quite pertinent in both consumer and enterprise scenarios.

Mistral has created Le Chat to interface directly with the enterprise data on privately owned servers as opposed to many AI platforms that run on cloud services. The design can assist firms in the banking, military, and government industries to implement AI without transferring sensitive information to the cloud.

Multilingual reasoning and code-switching

It supports multiple languages by default, and Le Chat can reason and understand French, Spanish and Japanese. The users are also able to alternate their languages in the same sentence. This update is based on the Mistral Magistral model that formerly did advanced reasoning in English solely.

Organised workspace projects

Projects is another new feature that enables users to combine chats, documents, and notes on a similar topic. Projects may contain project-specific tools, libraries and settings. According to Mistral, this assists the users in handling complicated activities such as designing products or relocation plans without getting lost.

Enhanced image editing tools

Le Chat also had an upgrade of the image editing capabilities. Now users can edit images with such prompts as removing the object or putting me in a different city. This aspect will put Le Chat in the same league as image-based AI tools provided by other significant players.
