FIR has been registered against Tej Pratap Yadav. He is accused of violating the code of conduct by using a vehicle with police logo and lights during the nomination rally in Mahua. The administration has started investigating the matter.
Patna: Amidst the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and founder of Janashakti Janata Dal, is once again embroiled in controversy. This time the matter is of model code of conduct violation. During his nomination in Mahua assembly constituency of Vaishali district, a Bolero vehicle was seen with police logo and red-blue lights, after which the administration has registered an FIR against Tej Pratap Yadav.
Bolero like police seen in nomination rally
According to the information, on October 16, Tej Pratap Yadav had filed nomination from Mahua seat. During this time in his rally, a Bolero car was running in front of the rally, which had the police logo and blue-red lights on it. The vehicle was leading his rally like a police escort. According to election rules, use of police identification or lights on a private vehicle is considered a direct violation of the code of conduct.
FIR registered on the statement of CO Mani Kumar Verma
Mahua Circle Officer (CO) Mani Kumar Verma has confirmed the entire matter. Based on his written statement, an FIR has been registered at Mahua police station. It has been mentioned in the FIR that the Bolero vehicle used in Tej Pratap Yadav’s rally had police logo and lights on it, which shows the misleading use of police vehicle in the procession of the public representative candidate.
Vaishali Superintendent of Police Lalit Mohan Sharma said that this case is a violation of the model code of conduct. He said, “During the nomination of Tej Pratap Yadav, a Bolero vehicle had a police logo and blue-red lights. An FIR has been lodged by the Circle Officer in this regard. The investigation is ongoing.”
Election rules are strict, action will be taken against violation
The Election Commission has already directed all districts to take immediate action against any candidate using government identity, police escort or flash light. According to Election Commission rules, “No candidate or political party can use police vehicles, flash lights or government symbols in its campaign.” Mahua police is now searching for the owner and driver of that Bolero vehicle. The process of confiscating the vehicle has also been started.
Tej Pratap’s new party and start of election journey
This time Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting from Mahua assembly seat from his new party Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD). This is the same seat from where he won on RJD ticket in 2015. But now by forming his own party, he has taken a different electoral path from his father Lalu Yadav and brother Tejashwi Yadav.
On the day of nomination, Tej Pratap had arrived holding the photograph of his grandmother Marchiya Devi and claimed that “the people of Mahua are my real strength.” However, now this day of nomination has brought new troubles for them after the FIR.
Round of discussions in political circles
After the FIR was registered against Tej Pratap, there has been a stir again in the politics of Bihar. Opposition parties have accused him of making a “mockery” of the Election Commission rules, while Tej Pratap’s supporters say it is a “political conspiracy”. At present, the administration has made it clear that no one is above the law, and if any candidate misuses government symbols, strict action will be taken against him.
