Bottle Gourd Rice Recipe: If your children do not like bottle gourd, then try making bottle gourd rice for them. These two easy and delicious recipes, Masala Lauki Rice and Tadka Lauki Rice, are both tasty and healthy.
Children often do not like bottle gourd, but it is very healthy. If you want to feed healthy food to your children, then try preparing bottle gourd in a new way. Making gourd rice instead of common vegetable is a great idea. It is spicy, light and nutritious. The special thing is that it is very easy to make and it does not take much time. Here are two delicious recipes of bottle gourd rice that even kids will ask for again and again.
Masala Gourd Rice
Material
- 1 cup basmati rice (boiled)
- 1 cup grated bottle gourd
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1 tomato (chopped)
- 1 green chilli (chopped)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- salt as per taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Green coriander for garnish
Method
First of all, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds in it. When cumin starts crackling, add chopped onion and green chilli and fry till it becomes light golden. Add tomatoes and cook until soft. Then, add grated bottle gourd and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Add turmeric, red chilli powder, salt and garam masala and mix well. When the bottle gourd is lightly cooked, add boiled rice and stir gently. To ensure that the spices mix well with the rice, cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Tadka Lauki Rice
Material
- 1 cup boiled rice
- 1 cup chopped bottle gourd
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 6–8 curry leaves
- 1 dry red chilli
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- salt as per taste
- 2 teaspoons ghee or oil
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they start crackling, add curry leaves and dried red chillies. Add chopped onion and fry until light pink.
- Add chopped bottle gourd and cook on medium flame for 4-5 minutes. When the bottle gourd becomes soft, add turmeric and salt and mix well. Add boiled rice and mix gently.
- Finally, add lemon juice and turn off the flame. This Tadka Lauki Rice tastes slightly sour and very spicy. You can serve it with curd or salad.
- By making these two recipes, you can give a new and interesting twist to bottle gourd. This can prove to be a healthy and tasty option, especially for children.
