Mumbai, Maharashtra: Actress Lara Dutta has expressed profound gratitude for portraying Mata Kaikeyi in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film, ‘Ramayana’.
Dutta described the role as an “extraordinary privilege,” highlighting the deep personal connection she felt to the character.
In a heartfelt note shared widely, Dutta articulated her long-held desire to be part of a project of such immense cultural significance. “What began many years ago as a fervent wish… to be a part of something greater than oneself. Something that transcends time itself… something woven into the very fabric of our being,” she wrote, emphasizing the timeless nature of the epic.
Speaking about Kaikeyi, a character often misunderstood in mythology, Lara shared, “What an extraordinary privilege to portray a mother who has perhaps been one of the most misunderstood women in history. To be entrusted with the responsibility of bringing alive her humanity… her angst, her vulnerabilities, her guilt and her remorse.” She acknowledged Kaikeyi’s pivotal role in shaping the narrative of the Ramayana.
Dutta expressed hope that her portrayal would encourage viewers to look beyond traditional perceptions and appreciate Kaikeyi’s significant contribution to the divine prophecy. The film, ‘Ramayana: Part 1’, which features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravan, is slated for a worldwide release on November 5, 2026. Lara concluded by stating, “Some stories are not merely told. They are lived, felt and carried within us. This is one such story.”
