Lanka Dahan Ramayan: There is an incident of burning of Lanka by Hanuman ji in Ramayana. Burning of Lanka is said to be a symbol of destruction of ego. Hanuman ji had reached Lanka in search of Mother Sita. After meeting Mother Sita, when Hanuman ji felt hungry, he started eating fruits from the trees in Ashok Vatika and started uprooting the trees. When this news reached Ravana, he sent his son Akshay Kumar to Ashok Vatika. Then Akshay Kumar was killed at the hands of Hanuman ji.
After this, Meghnad went to Ashok Vatika and fired Brahmastra, respecting which Hanuman ji got tied to it and reached Ravana’s meeting, where his tail was set on fire. In return for this insult, Hanuman ji set the whole of Lanka on fire. However, a big mystery still surprises many people. Hanuman ji reduced entire Lanka to ashes, but why did he leave Ravana’s palace?
Respected Vibhishan’s devotion
At the time of burning of Lanka, Hanuman ji saw that the entire city was of demonic nature, but there was a place in Lanka where the name of Ram was being chanted. The symbols of conch, disc and mace were inscribed on the building. That building belonged to Ravana’s younger brother Vibhishana. Hanuman ji knew that Vibhishan was a devotee of Lord Shri Ram. According to the scriptures, the house of a devotee is like a temple for God.
This is the reason why he left Vibhishana’s house safely. Since Vibhishana’s palace was very close to Ravana’s palace complex, Hanuman ji took care of the security of that entire area. Another reason for not setting Ravana’s palace on fire was Mother Sita. Finding Mother Sita and keeping her safe was the main objective of Hanuman ji. Ravana’s palace and Ashok Vatika were connected to each other.
Ravana’s pride was shattered
Bajrangbali was afraid that if he completely set the main palace on fire then its flames could reach Ashok Vatika, due to which Mother Sita could be in trouble. Hanuman ji’s aim was not to destroy Lanka, but to shatter Ravana’s pride. By setting the entire Lanka on fire, he gave the message that if a messenger is so powerful, then what can Lord Shri Ram’s army do?
