Lamborghini Will Keep The Internal Combustion Engine For The Urus

Lamborghini will keep making the internal combustion engine. In an interview with Autocar, Stephan Winkelman said that keeping the plug-in-hybrid powertrain of the Urus SE is “very important for us and for the customers.” The next generation was going to be all electric but it looks like that Lamborghini has put those plans on a hold and the next model which is supposedly going to arrive in 2029 will still feature a plug-in-hybrid engine.

The reason for this shift is solely because of the dwindling market of all electric EVs in the space. A lot of the manufacturers, especially the ones building high performance and luxury models, are struggling with sales across the board for EVs. This is true for Audi, Lamborghini’s sister brand, Mercedes Benz and even Ferrari.

We are not sure what exact engine will the next generation of the Urus will feature but fans of the Lambo SUV would be glad to know that it will still be available with an internal combustion engine. The current model features a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine which produces 789 bhp. The European Union could potentially make some changes in order to give a little more leeway to the manufacturers and Lamborghini is also banking on the development in synthetic fuels.
