Till a few years ago, village women were considered confined to the four walls of the house. Today the same women are handling banking, farming, energy, health and even small businesses. This change did not come suddenly. There is planned work and continuous efforts behind this.

The impact of the initiatives regarding women empowerment started under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is now clearly visible on the ground. Especially Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission is bringing a big change in rural areas.

Today, there are women in every village who are earning well through tailoring, dairy, food processing, agriculture and other small industries.

One Gram Panchayat-One BC Sakhi: Bank near home

“One Gram Panchayat-One BC Sakhi” scheme was launched to ease rural banking. The target is to deploy BC Sakhis in 57,000 gram panchayats of the state.

Till now 50,225 BC Sakhis have been trained. About 40 thousand women together have handled transactions worth about Rs 40,000 crore. Where earlier people used to hesitate in going to the bank, now the facility of deposit-withdrawal, pension and digital payment is available in the village itself. This initiative has come as a special relief for the elderly.

easy capital for small business

Under Lakhpati Didi Yojana, women are given easy and interest-free capital to start small scale businesses. This assistance is provided in a phased manner, so that women can increase their work without pressure. This increases the family income and women also become participants in the financial decisions of the household.

Not just planning, change in thinking

The way women empowerment has been given priority in the last nine years has changed the thinking of the villages. Now women are not dependent but are becoming earners and decision makers.

The change seen today in Uttar Pradesh shows that if given the right direction, training and financial help, village women can also become a strong foundation of development. This is not just the story of government statistics, but the story of millions of women who are now saying with confidence – we too can do it.
