It is, truth be told, an irrefutably important part of a cricketer’s life to be kept in light of the plans with regards to his future.
That becomes even more vital or essential as time passes by and a talent is nearing his twilight era, edging closer to the stage of retirement. And in this line of thought, the stakes become even higher when a cricketer has contributed ever so more throughout his career towards upholding the strength and performances of his team.
How might his retirement or exit be planned is then something that is just as important as the big innings from his bat and the kind of impact they have on the team’s fortunes.
Giving an important reminder of precisely this fact, former member of the Indian team and among its most loved sons, Yuvraj Singh, widely recognised as among the best all rounders ever from India, has recently drawn home an important point.
And that concerns the imminent future of two of Indian Cricket’s most dutiful and loyal sons- Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The great former left handed batter who played in the middle order has shared the fact that it is important to be given clarity on the matter of one’s place in the side.
The Punjab born cricketer was present on the occasion of the third and final one dayer of the recently concluded 3-match series between England and India where at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19, when Yuvraj Singh stared a pertinent fact back from his playing days. Speaking to Jatin Sapru, the left handed batting legend shared, ‘Back when me and Dhoni were 36-37 years, this became important. I did not have much clarity about my future.’
He would continue, ‘Virat and Rohit are of such big stature from what they’ve given to the game.’ So on the perspective of not being given a lot of clarity about their own future- which seems to be the case- Yuvraj Singh added, ‘From a player’s point of view, it hurts.” He also added a perspective on important talent from the present day era not being given enough chances, as seen of lately.
Speaking on the subject of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuvraj further added, ‘Jaiswal who has had 2 hundreds in the last four games is not starting. Don’t make the same mistakes from the start.’ He also pointed to a lack of white ball experience that the left hander gets by adding, ‘What white ball experience does Jaiswal get- IPL?’
These are certainly some factors to be considered by those in charge of running the team in the white ball arena and as far as Virat and Rohit playing the next ODI World Cup, the great Yuvraj Singh is of the view that they must be secured now.
