Kyle Walker has found renewed enthusiasm for football since moving from Manchester City to AC Milan. The England defender, who joined City from Tottenham in 2017, transferred to Milan on loan in January.
Before his departure, Walker faced challenges in the Premier League as City’s form declined. Now, he is relishing the opportunity to play abroad and has already appeared four times for Milan.
In an interview with GQ, Walker expressed his delight with his initial weeks in Milan. “The first two weeks in Milan have been fantastic,” he stated. He praised the fans and the cuisine, although he noted that the weather could be sunnier. Despite this, Walker is thoroughly enjoying his time in Italy and looks forward to March when the weather might improve.
Walker shared his excitement about joining AC Milan on Twitter: “Ciao @acmilan I’m delighted and proud to sign for AC Milan! A club with such rich history, one I’ve followed since I was a kid. It’s an honour to join and I can’t wait to pull on the Rossoneri shirt and get started. I’m very much looking forward to this new chapter in my life.”
Walker explained that his move has allowed him to focus solely on football and rekindle his passion for the game. “It’s given me a new lease of life where I can just solely concentrate on football and fall back in love with the game,” he said. Although he never lost love for football, playing against familiar opponents after achieving everything needed a change.
Looking ahead, Walker is set to make his fifth appearance for Milan when they face Hellas Verona in Serie A on Saturday. The Rossoneri have a strong record against Verona, having won their last eight league encounters against them. This winning streak is one of their longest against any opponent in Serie A history.
Walker’s transition to AC Milan seems to have revitalised his career, offering him fresh challenges and experiences. His enthusiasm for this new chapter highlights how a change of environment can positively impact a player’s mindset and performance on the field.
