Kunickaa Sadanand on Diljit Dosanjh’s Delhi Concert Row: ‘There Is a Security Problem in Our Country’

Actress Kunickaa Sadanand has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming Delhi concert, citing security concerns amid reports that police initially withheld permission for the event before granting clearance.

Speaking to IANS, Kunickaa said security had become a concern in the country, referring to incidents of violence involving celebrities.

“Well, there is a security problem in our country. As you can see, every day some or the other celebrity is shot, attempted murder, assassinated. So, due to security reasons, it got cancelled,” she said.

However, the actress said she was unsure whether the decision to withhold permission had been taken by the government or the singer.

“I don’t know if Diljit did it or the government did it. If the government didn’t do it, it means they don’t know how to control and keep law and order in the country. Our citizens are safe here,” she added.

Diljit’s concert is scheduled for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. The event faced uncertainty after Delhi Police initially declined permission, citing security concerns and threat-related intelligence. Police subsequently granted clearance following discussions with the organisers and a review of the proposed security arrangements.

BookMyShow Live clarified that the concert had never been cancelled and that clearance had temporarily been put on hold while officials assessed the safety arrangements.

In a letter dated October 21, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal had declined permission, referring to specific threat-related intelligence and the police’s responsibility for maintaining security and law and order during the festive period. Authorities did not disclose details of the alleged threats.

The Delhi performance will mark the beginning of the India leg of Diljit’s Aura World Tour. He is also scheduled to perform in Indore on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 21, Mumbai on November 27, Bengaluru on November 29 and Lucknow on December 5.
