Actress Surveen Chawla, known for shows and films like Sacred Games, Hate Story 2, Rana Naidu, and others, revealed that she was asked to put on weight when she decided to try her hand in the south film industry. The actress revealed how women and their bodies were objectified in both south and Hindi film industry, and how it is a menace even today.
“All of this still persists, but it happens in a very sophisticated manner. In my time, there was no sophistication. Everything was said to my face, so I gave it back to them in the same manner,” she added.
“I might get lot of flak for saying this out loud because they gave me a break, but I don’t appreciate it. You don’t own anybody. You’re paying them because they are doing a job, beyond that, you don’t own them,” she stated.
Surveen also revealed that she had to miss out on a lot of films in her initial days because filmmakers thought she was “overexposed” due to her work on television.
