KTM 990 RC R Track unveiled, Here’s all you need to know

New Delhi: KTM has revealed a new track-focused motorcycle called the 990 RC R Track. It is based on the standard 990 RC R that was shown last year, but this version is not road legal. It is made only for closed-circuit racing and track riding.

To make it more suitable for track use, KTM has removed parts that are needed for road riding. The bike does not get lights, mirrors, or even a side stand. The idea is simply to reduce weight and focus fully on performance.

Engine and performance changes

The 990 RC R Track uses the same 947cc parallel-twin LC8c engine, but with slightly higher output. It produces 135hp and 105Nm of torque. In comparison, the standard model makes 130hp and 103Nm. The engine is paired with a racing gearbox that has a longer first gear and a shorter sixth gear to suit track conditions.

KTM has also fitted an Akrapovič Evolution Line exhaust system, which weighs just 3kg. The company says it has saved 2kg through a more compact electronics setup as well.

The bike runs on Michelin Power Slick tyres, which are meant only for track riding. Suspension is handled by fully adjustable WP APEX units at the front and rear, tuned specifically for circuit use. Braking duties are managed by Brembo HyPure calipers with a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc. The braking system is set up for pure track riding and does not include ABS.

Features and track-focused setup

The 990 RC R Track comes with three adjustable Track modes. Riders can change throttle response, traction control, wheel slip, anti-wheelie, launch control and engine braking levels. Other features include a pit limiter, bi-directional quickshifter and a 4.2-inch full-colour TFT screen.

KTM says the bike’s aerodynamics are inspired by its MotoGP race machine, the KTM RC16. It gets a slightly taller windscreen. A wet-weather taillight and paddock stand are also included as standard.

The KTM 990 RC R Track will start reaching global dealerships from April 2026.
