Kritika Kamra secured a space in fans’ hearts with her performance as Aarohi in Kitni Mohabbat Hai. The actress has now successfully moved from the small screen to the big screen.
She is currently exploring opportunities in the OTT space. Kritika has also made her mark in films such as Mitron and Bheed. Having experienced television, cinema, and streaming platforms, Kritika reflects on her journey and the early days of her career in TV. In a recent interview, actress Kritika Kamra was asked whether there’s partiality between male and female actors on film sets.
Kritika Kamra on gender bias in the industry
In her recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kritika was asked about bias on set and the challenges she’s faced early in her career. She responded, “I’ve seen it happen. But it’s not always a gender issue; it’s more about star power. Stars can get away with being late. Others have to be on time. Even people outside the industry are aware of this.”
When asked if she had experienced such situations herself, Kritika recalled her early days in the industry, “I started with television when I was very young. Everyone was senior to me then. Some of my experiences are first-hand, and some are just things I’ve observed over the years. But yes, I’ve seen that it’s tougher for women when it comes to following rules. Women tend to stick to the rules more, and they’re not easily excused if they don’t.”
Kritika on challenges in her career
Without naming names, she described one particular incident from her early career: “There are actors who reach a level where their contracts allow them to work fewer hours than others. So, they come for a limited time, and all their scenes are shot in that window. I’ve worked on a schedule like that-where I’d be the first actor on set. We’d shoot the master scenes and the other actor’s close-ups first. Since the other actor was constantly in motion, I wasn’t part of those shots. Only after I had wrapped for the day, we would go back and shoot my close-ups.”
Kritika stressed that this happened when she was still new in the industry, and thankfully, it no longer applies to her today. She ended on a hopeful note, “I don’t know if this still happens now, but I hope it doesn’t.”
