Ashtami Tithi: On August 15, Ashtami Tithi will start in the afternoon and will remain till noon on 16 August.
Rohini Nakshatra: The Rohini Nakshatra will start from the morning of August 16 and will remain till the morning of 17 August.
According to mythology, Lord Krishna was born at night, so it is considered auspicious to worship in Rohini Nakshatra. Therefore, many people are talking about celebrating Janmashtami on August 16. At the same time, some people are advising to celebrate Janmashtami on August 15, considering Ashtami Tithi as head.
On what day should the householders celebrate Janmashtami?
According to religious beliefs and astrologers, people living a householder life should celebrate Janmashtami on Ashtami Tithi. Since Ashtami Tithi starts in the afternoon on August 15 and Lord Krishna is considered to be born at night, it will be auspicious to celebrate Janmashtami on August 15.

Difference between householder and Vaishnav tradition
Householders: Most householders do the fast of Janmashtami and the first day of the worship date i.e. as soon as the Ashtami date starts. This year, the householder community will celebrate Shri Krishna’s birth anniversary at 12 pm on 15 August 2025, Friday.
Vaishnava Sampradaya: Vaishnavas celebrate Janmashtami Nishita Kaal (midnight) and Rohini Nakshatra on the basis of coincidence. This time this coincidence is being made on August 16 the next day, so devotees with Vaishnav tradition will fast and worship on 16 August, Saturday.
This is how to worship Janmashtami?
Take a pledge of fast and eat satvik food throughout the day. In the evening, bathe the statue of Lord Krishna with Ganga water. Wear new clothes and make up. After the birth of Krishna at 12 o’clock in the night, swing them. Offer Makhan, Mishri and other sweets. Perform aarti and after the worship is done, distribute the offerings to all.
