Kris Srikkanth has expressed his concerns regarding Sanju Samson’s omission from the T20I squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe, suggesting potential bias in the selection process.
During a discussion on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth raised questions about the rationale behind dropping Samson, highlighting his status as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2026 T20 World Cup. He pointed out the inconsistency in team selection, particularly in comparison to Abhishek Sharma, who seems to be given more opportunities. Srikkanth remarked, “Samson was the MVP of the World Cup. Why is he not getting a chance while Abhishek continues to play? This raises a valid concern. If Abhishek is being favored, why not Samson?”
He further added, “I hope he finds his form again. He needs to adapt his scoring approach, perhaps by starting slower and then accelerating. He has the ability to recover and score quickly after a cautious start.”
Samson’s recent performance against Ireland was disappointing, where he only managed to score five runs. He was dropped after the first T20I against England but made a return in the fifth match, scoring 27 runs. The decision to exclude him from the Zimbabwe series surprised many, especially since Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was part of the squad, had to make way for him in the final T20I against England.

Samson was a standout player for India during the T20 World Cup, contributing significantly to the team’s success. He delivered three consecutive match-winning performances, including an impressive unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in the Super 8 stage. He followed this with an 89-run innings in the semi-final against England and scored 89 runs off just 46 balls in the final against New Zealand, helping India set a formidable total of 255 runs. The Indian team clinched the title with a 96-run victory.
