Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have arrested the security guard of the law college where a woman student was raped on Friday. This is the fourth arrest in the case. The others arrested include, 2 students and 1 staff member.
What we know so far
The alleged rape case came to light on Friday, when the rape survivor, filed a complaint with the police. She was raped on the college premises on June 25. The police have arrested 3 people in the case. Those arrested include a former student of the college.
The three accused arrested on Friday were identified as Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay. While 2 of the accused were arrested from Siddhartha Shankar Sishu Roy Udyan near Talbagan Crossing, one was picked up from his home. Now the police have made the fourth arrest in the case.
The fourth accused in the case is the security guard of the South Kolkata Law College where the rape allegedly took place. The police have not revealed the identity of the security guard as of now.
According to a report in PTI, the police suspect that the woman was raped for rejecting the marriage proposal of the main accused making him angry. The police are now investigating if the crime was pre-planned.
Police said that the survivor told the 3 accused that she was in a relationship and won’t cheat on her partner. This angered the accused and they threatened to kill her boyfriend and lodge false cases against her parents for the murder.
Police said that they are probing the case from all angles. THey said that the call details of all the accused and the survivor are being accessed and searched. The medical examination, corraborated the woman’s version of rape.
