Kolkata Gangrape Accused Drank Alcohol For Hours After Crime, Warned Guard, Then Headed Out For Dinner

Kolkata Gangrape Case: Monojit Mishra, prime accused in the gangrape of a student at South Calcutta Law College, along with his accomplices, spent considerable time drinking liquor inside the institute’s guard room after committing the crime on June 25, reported PTI citing the police.

The trio warned the guard to stay quiet before heading out for dinner, the report added. A 24-year-old first-year student of the South Calcutta Law College was allegedly gang-raped inside the institution by an alumnus and two senior students – Monojit Mishra, Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed.

“After committing the crime, the three consumed alcohol in the guard’s room and then asked security guard Pinaki Banerjee to keep his mouth shut about the incident,” an officer said, as quoted by PTI. According to the police, the trio then went to a dhaba on EM Bypass for dinner before returning to their respective homes the next morning.

Monojit Called An ‘Influential’ Person After Crime

The cops revealed that a day after the crime on June 26, Monojit, realising the gravity of the situation, contacted an “influential” person in Deshapriya Park, South Kolkata. The person had previously helped him, the cops said, adding that this time the person advised Monojit to back off, sensing the ‘mood’ of the situation.

The prime accused then sought help from his “mentors” to find an escape route, the officer said.

“Monojit went to various parts of the city including Rashbehari, Deshapriya Park, Gariahat, Fern Road, and Ballygunge Station Road, trying to meet his mentors. Mobile tower data also indicated that he visited someone near Karaya police station,” the officer said.

Tortured For Hours For ‘Rejecting’ Proposal

According to the police, the woman was tortured for over three hours inside a guard’s room next to the student’s union office. The woman had external injuries near her private parts and inner thighs, besides marks of assaults on and around her neck.

The miscreants shut the main door of the college and made the security guard sit outside his room, the woman alleged. The police suspect that the law student was gangraped since she turned down the marriage proposal of the main accused, making him angry.
