Vilasier Khate, who won the PWR 50 Nagaland Open in July, reached the final of the Kohima Open, also a PWR 50 event, in Kohima on Sunday.
While Vilasier clinched the Nagaland Open men’s doubles title with Megotsolie Khate, he partnered with Vikhozolie Khate for the Kohima Open. Displaying their dominant game from the very start of the tournament, Vilasier and Vikhozolie stormed into the final. The duo will face Zhaputso Khate and Kepevilie Khate in the title clash later today.
Vilasier and Vikhozolie began their campaign with a commanding 15-8, 15-5 win over Imtinok Pongener and Rowang D in the group stage. In the quarterfinals, they outclassed Aaron Ezung and Chiede Khalo 15-5, 15-10 to seal a place in the semifinals. In the last four, the Khates ended the dream run of Nzamo Kikon and Imsuren Longchar. This marked the second consecutive tournament where Kikon and Longchar fell short at the semifinal stage. Last month, they narrowly missed out on a final berth in the inaugural Nagaland Open, bowing out in the last four.
In contrast, Megotsolie Khate, who had lifted the Nagaland Open title alongside Vilasier, failed to cross the semifinal hurdle this time. He and Thejaser Khate lost 8-15, 14-15 to Zhaputso Khate and Kepevilie Khate.
Earlier in the tournament, Zhaputso and Kepevilie opened their campaign with a thumping 15-2, 15-4 win over Nathan Zeliang and Noto Zhimomi. They then eased past Thejasevi Putsure and Aningu Pienyu 15-9, 15-1 in the quarterfinals.
Zhaputso and Kepevilie are now set for a thrilling final showdown against Vilasier and Vikhozolie.
