Knee injury may cut short Nitish Reddy’s England tour – Report

New Delhi: All-rounder Nitish Reddy is set to be ruled out of the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy after picking up a knee injury. According to a ESPNcricinfo report, he suffered the injury while training in the gym on Sunday.

He underwent scans in the hospital which revealed ligament damage. The BCCI medical team is monitoring the situation before making a decision about his participation in the ongoing Test series. Nitish skipped the team’s visit to Manchester United and also was not spotted in the optional practice session on Sunday.

Reddy missed the first Test in Headingley but played in the second and third Test matches of the series. He failed to make any impact in Birmingham with the bat and bowl. He picked up top-order wickets at Lord’s and dismissed England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the same over in the first innings, and removing Crawley again in the second innings. He scored 30 and 13 with the bat in the match.

The Men in Blue have played a seam-bowling allrounder in all three Test matches so far. Shardul Thakur played the opening Test before Reddy replaced him in the second match. Dhruv Jurel might replace Rishabh Pant in the Manchester Test if India’s vice-captain failed to recover from the finger injury while there are still doubts on Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the fourth Test.

Bumrah played the first and third Test match, and Team India assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate have indicated that the management is “leaning towards” including him in the fourth Test, with the players getting an eight-day break between the two Test matches.

Anshul Kamboj joins Indian Test squad

Pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to India’s Test squad ahead of the fourth Test against England as a cover for Arshdeep Singh. According to the Indian Express report, he suffered a cut in his bowling hand during a training session in Beckenham earlier this week.

With Arshdeep unlikely to recover in time for the Manchester Test, the BCCI has decided to add the young fast bowler from Haryana as a back-up option for the remainder of the series.
