According to the legend, once Lord Shiva was engrossed in meditation. At the same time, Rahu, intoxicated with his powers, eclipsed the moon sitting on Lord Shiva’s head. Seeing this, Mahadev became very angry. In anger, Mahadev opened his third eye. After he opened his third eye, Kirtimukha was born to kill Rahu. Kirtimukh’s face was like that of a lion. Fire was raining from his eyes.

Lord Shiva ordered him to eat Rahu. After this, Rahu realized his mistake and started praying for forgiveness from Bholenath. Then Mahadev forgave him. Seeing all this, Kirtimukh told God that he was hungry. Because they have created him to eat someone. Then Lord Shiva casually told him what to do with his body.

Started eating myself on the orders of Shiv Ji

Lord Shiva did not think that Kirtimukh would follow this order, but he did so. On the orders of Lord Shiva, he started eating himself. Then God stopped Kirtimukh and said that his face is famous so he should not eat it. After this incident, Lord Shiva made him his most favorite person. Also, Lord Shiva gave this boon to Kirtimukh that wherever he sits, negativity will not be able to reside there.
