Kirill Kaprizov Leads Minnesota Wild to 5-4 Victory Over Detroit Red Wings with Hat Trick

DETROIT (AP) – Kirill Kaprizov scored a hat trick, including the decisive goal on a power play with 1:51 left, propelling the Minnesota Wild to a 5-4 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

The Wild initially held a commanding 4-1 lead before the Red Wings rallied to tie the game with three goals in the third period, necessitating Kaprizov’s late-game heroics.

Game Summary

Matt Boldy and Mats Zuccarello assisted Kaprizov’s game-winning goal. Vladimir Tarasenko and Boldy also found the net for the Wild, while Albert Johansson scored the Red Wings’ initial goal.

Red Wings’ Performance

Detroit’s comeback featured goals from J.T. Compher, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and Patrick Kane, who helped to narrow the deficit. Filip Gustavsson, the Wild’s goaltender, recorded 18 saves, while Cam Talbot of Detroit faced 20 shots, conceding five goals.

Playoff Implications

The Red Wings, who led the Atlantic Division and were tied for the most points in the Eastern Conference earlier in the season, have seen a decline, losing 12 of their last 20 games, which has jeopardized their playoff position with five games remaining.

Upcoming Matches

The Minnesota Wild will host the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, while the Detroit Red Wings will face the Columbus Blue Jackets the same evening.
