King Charles enquires about Akash Deep’s sister’s health during meet with Shubman Gill-led Team India

New Delhi: King Charles III met the Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team in London on the sidelines of their ongoing tour of England on Tuesday. India are currently engaged in a five-match Test series against England as part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The series currently stands at 2-1 in England’s favour after the hosts defeated India by 22 runs in the recently concluded 3rd Test at Lord’s.

During his meeting with the Indian team, King Charles III asked numerous questions to the players and also enquired about his sister’s well-being from Indian pacer Akash Deep. Akash Deep had recently revealed that his sister is suffering from cancer and is undergoing treatment for the same.

BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, who also met with King Charles in London, revealed the details of his discussions with the Indian players. Shukla said that the British monarch had done his homework on the Indian team and met them with a lot of humility. He also revealed that King Charles asked Akash Deep about his sister’s health when he met with the pacer.

“It was a very historic occasion that both our men’s and women’s teams were invited today by King Charles and met them very well in the Palace. He also asked about Akash Deep’s sister’s illness,” Rajeev Shukla told ANI.

“He had found out so many details. He sounded like a gentleman, and it did not seem we were talking to the King of England. There is a lot of humility in him, and the team is very happy to meet him,” he added.

Akash Deep had opened up about his sister’s illness following his stellar performance with the ball in the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham last week. Akash Deep revealed his sister was under treatment for cancer and dedicated his performance to her after taking a 10-wicket haul in the match.
