Kia’s First CNG Cars Coming Soon: 7-Seater, 25km/kg Mileage?

Kia India has made several important official announcements on the sidelines of the launch event. The South Korean automaker has confirmed that the   will be the brand’s second strong hybrid offering in India, sharing its powertrain with the Kia Sorento.

Additionally, the company has confirmed its entry into the rapidly growing CNG market by the end of September or early October, 2026.

The Carens and Carens Clavis CNG will become the Kia’s first models to feature a factory-fitted CNG kit. The MPVs will feature a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 60-litre CNG tank positioned in the boot area. The CNG versions will deliver a claimed power of 93bhp and 123Nm of torque, making the nearly 22bhhp less powerful and 21Nm less torquey than their petrol-powered counterparts.

Since the CNG tank will be positioned under the boot floor, the setup will eat into the available luggage space. The CNG versions of the MPVs are claimed to offer 116-litres of boot space, which is 100-litres less than the petrol-powered versions.

Aiming to boost the performance and handling of the CNG models, Kia India has also retuned their suspension system and updated the front disc brakes. It’s important to note that buyers will continue to get an underbody spare wheel.

The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the official fuel efficiency figures of the MPVs. However, both models are expected to offer a mileage of up to 25km/kg.

The carmaker has confirmed that the CNG kit will be offered on the HTE and HTE (O) variants of the Carens Clavis and the Premium trim of the Carens MPV. Both models will be equipped with 16-inch wheels.
