Kia Sales Posts Its Highest-Ever Monthly Sales- 32,000 Units: Seltos, Sonet Top-Sellers

Kia has recorded its highest-ever monthly sales since entering the market in 2019. It dispatched 32,017 cars in September 2026. That is 41 percent higher than the 22,700 units sold in September last year and, more importantly, the first time Kia has crossed 32,000 units in a single month.

The record did not come from a one-month spike. Kia sold 28,200 units in July and 29,042 in August before moving past 32,000 in September. Q3 sales therefore reached 89,259 units, up 38.5 percent from 64,443 units in the same quarter last year. January-September sales stand at 253,008 units, up 22.5 percent year on year.

The Seltos and Sonet remain the core of those volumes. Kia says the new-generation Seltos has averaged more than 10,000 units a month since its January launch. The latest detailed model split available for August shows why these two SUVs matter so much: the Seltos sold 11,716 units and the Sonet 9,048, together accounting for more than 70 percent of Kia’s 29,042-unit August total.

Seltos Has Rebuilt Kia’s Mid-Size SUV Volumes

The second-generation Seltos has been the biggest change in Kia’s sales mix this year. August sales were 11,716 units, compared with just 4,687 in August 2025. The new model is larger than its predecessor and continues with petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel choices, giving Kia broad coverage in a segment where buyers still want multiple engine and gearbox combinations.

The Sonet has provided the steadier base underneath it. It sold 9,048 units in August and had already crossed 1.14 lakh units in FY2026. Between the Seltos and Sonet, Kia has two SUVs that can regularly generate five-figure or near-five-figure monthly volumes without relying on one body style or price band.

Syros EV Adds A New Source Of Growth

The Syros has also started contributing more after the electric version arrived in July. Combined Syros ICE and EV wholesales rose to 1,742 units in August, up 34 percent month on month. Retail data showed Kia’s EV sales reaching a new high in August as the Syros EV joined the Carens Clavis EV in the more accessible part of the electric market.

That matters because Kia’s earlier EVs, the EV6 and EV9, were premium products with limited volumes. The Syros EV, priced from Rs 13.49 lakh, gives the company a much larger potential customer base. September registration data also points to another step up in Kia EV volumes, although the company has not published a model-wise September wholesale split.

Sorento And Higher Factory Output Expand The Ceiling

September also included the first full month of the Sorento, launched at Rs 27.99 lakh with diesel and strong-hybrid powertrains. It will never match the Seltos or Sonet on volume, but it adds a new premium SUV line and gives Kia its first strong-hybrid offering.

More important for overall sales is production capacity. Supplier estimates reported in September indicated that output at Kia’s Anantapur plant had risen from around 24,000-27,000 units a month earlier in the year to as much as 35,500 units. That gives the company enough manufacturing headroom to support a 30,000-plus domestic wholesale month while also maintaining exports.
