New Delhi: Kia India has introduced a new feature called the Plant Remote Over-The-Air (OTA) update system, becoming the first carmaker in the Indian auto industry to do so. This technology allows all Kia cars equipped with the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC) platform to receive the latest software updates remotely while they are still at the manufacturing facility. As a result, customers will receive vehicles that are already fully updated and ready to drive from day one.
Previously, car software updates were usually done manually at dealerships after delivery. With this new system, Kia has removed that extra step entirely. Now, every connected Kia vehicle will leave the factory with the most recent software installed, giving buyers access to the complete suite of connected features and services immediately.
Mr. Atul Sood, Senior VP, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said, “By ensuring every vehicle leaves the plant with the latest software, we are redefining the ownership experience to be more seamless, intelligent, and future-ready. This milestone reinforces our vision of connected mobility and embodies Kia’s commitment to inspiring movement by introducing cutting-edge technology and meaningful innovation.”
Plant Remote OTA: Key Highlights
The Plant Remote OTA feature uses Controller OTA technology that follows the Connected Car System 2.0 (CCS 2.0) standards. This feature aimed to reduce manual work for software upgrades. However, it is also cutting down the need for customers to visit dealerships for basic updates. It ensures that all connected features are activated instantly once the car is delivered.
Kia has confirmed that this technology will be rolled out across all its upcoming connected models. The move further highlights the brand’s focus on digital innovation and smart mobility solutions in India.
The company has already made strong progress in connected vehicle technology. So far, Kia has sold more than 4.95 lakh connected cars in India and produced around 1.5 million vehicles since starting operations at its Anantapur plant in 2019. Out of this, 1.2 million units have been sold in the domestic market.
