Struggle for training: job and practice together
Debi says that she started wrestling in 2022 at the Khelo India Center near Kaziranga in Bokakhat in Golaghat district. For training he had to take a room near the centre, but he did not have money to pay the rent. So he took up a part-time job.
Earlier he worked in Easy Bazaar store at a monthly salary of Rs 2500. After this, in 2023, she got a job of about Rs 7000 per month at Bone Villa Resort in Kaziranga, where she looked after and cleaned the swimming pool. After working the whole day, she was able to practice only for two hours in the evening.
Result of hard work: Silver medal in Khelo India
Debi says that it is the result of her hard work that she got this silver medal. However, he is not completely satisfied with this and now his aim is to win the gold medal. For this he is ready to work harder.
Coach Anustup Narah’s guidance became the turning point
Initially Debi used to do powerlifting and arm wrestling. But in 2022, he met Assam team coach Anustup Narah. It was he who advised Debi to take up wrestling and gave her training. The coach also arranged a job and a bicycle for him, so that he could do both work and practice. Debi used to go to work every day by bicycle and then practice at the centre.
Rapid Success: From State Champion to National Level
Debi had qualified for the Senior Championship in 2022 itself. After this, in 2024, he proved his talent by winning the gold medal in the State Championship. His hard work is continuously bearing fruit.
Family togetherness becomes strength
Debi got married last year and her husband works in Bengaluru. He supports them in every way and also helps them financially from time to time. Debi says that she is able to move towards her goal only with the support of her family.
