Jharkhand, Himachal and Mizoram performed brilliantly in wrestling and weightlifting on the fifth day of Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. Karnataka continues to top the medal table, while players from many states showed their strength by winning gold medals.
Raipur. The wrestling competition started in Ambikapur on Sunday, the fifth day of Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. On this day, players from Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh performed brilliantly and won two gold medals each. The weightlifters of Mizoram also showed excellent performance and won two gold medals.
Jharkhand and Himachal won two gold each in wrestling
Jharkhand’s Poonam Oraon won the gold medal by defeating Telangana’s Geeta 6-3 in the women’s 50kg final. After this, Anjit Kumar Munda won gold in the men’s 67 kg Greco-Roman final by defeating Gujarat’s Mukesh Vasava by technical superiority. Navish Kumar (97 kg Greco Roman) and Priyanka Chaudhary (women 62 kg) won gold medals for Himachal Pradesh.
Mizoram’s dominance in weightlifting
Mizoram players performed brilliantly in weightlifting. Josangjuali (women +86 kg) and David Johmingmawia (men +110 kg) won gold medals. Overall, Mizoram has now reached fifth position in the medal tally with four gold medals.
Karnataka tops the medal table
In the total medal table, Karnataka remains at the first position with 15 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze. Odisha is at second position with 9 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze, while Arunachal Pradesh has moved up to third position with 5 gold. Host Chhattisgarh got two medals in weightlifting from Rishika Kashyap (silver) and Lucky Babu Markam (bronze), taking it to ninth position.
Excellent performance by players of Arunachal and Maharashtra
Sambo Lapung of Arunachal Pradesh won the gold medal in the men’s 100 kg category by lifting 299 kg and took his team to the third position. Sakshi Burkule of Maharashtra won gold in the women’s 86 kg category by lifting 150 kg, which was 29 kg more than the silver winner. Apart from this, Vinod Salkar added another success to Maharashtra’s kitty by winning gold medal in men’s 125 kg freestyle.
Great start for Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir’s Munir Hussain won the gold medal in men’s 74kg freestyle by defeating Maharashtra’s Vikram Pawar 11-1. Whereas Shama Hoon won silver medal in 97 kg Greco Roman.
