The Khalistani organisation Sikh For Justice (SFJ) has threatened to kill Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Independence Day. SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has issued a video message stating that CM Mann will be the target of terrorists on August 15 in Punjab’s Faridkot, jagran.com reported. Pannun has been declared a ‘designated individual terrorist’ by the Centre and is wanted in India on terror charges.

In the video, Pannu claimed that he has got “Khalistan Zindabad” slogans written at the bus stand, Khalsa College, some temples and court premises in Amritsar. However, no such slogans have been spotted in public places till now.
Earlier in January, CM Mann’s program at the Republic Day celebrations in Faridkot was cancelled after unknown activists of SFJ wrote “Khalistan Zindabad” slogans and put up flags on walls.
Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun also issued threats to Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra in December last year. “As in when such threats are issued, we take the threats very seriously and we raise it with the US government,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said at MEA briefing.

Last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended the declaration of SFJ as an unlawful association for five years, effective from July 10, 2024. The MHA had previously imposed a similar ban on SFJ in 2019.
The Ministry extended the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, citing the group’s involvement in “anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.”
