Kerala State Film Awards 2025: Mammootty, Shamla Hamza lead a star-studded victory night

New Delhi: The 55th Kerala State Film Awards 2025 winners were announced on Monday, celebrating the best of Malayalam cinema made in 2024. Minister Saji Cherian revealed the results at a special ceremony in Thrissur, where top artists and films were honoured.

With 128 films submitted and 26 shortlisted, the awards highlighted outstanding performances and technical excellence. Veteran actor Prakash Raj led the jury, ensuring a fair and respected selection. The awards recognise the creativity and talent shaping Kerala’s film industry today.

Kerala State Film Awards 2025 winners

At a press conference in Thrissur, Kerala Minister for Fisheries, Culture and Youth Affairs, Saji Cherian, announced the winners of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards on Monday. The awards celebrated Malayalam movies from 2024 with a jury led by veteran actor Prakash Raj. A total of 128 films were submitted for consideration, of which 26 were shortlisted for the final round.

The Best Film award was given to the film that stood out the most, alongside honours for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director, recognising outstanding talent in front of and behind the camera. The Best Popular Film went to Premalu.

Several special awards were also given, reflecting excellence in various cinematic arts. The Special Jury Award went to the movie Paradise. There was a Special Jury award recognising women and transgender contributors, given to Payal Kapadia. Technical categories included Best VFX, awarded to ARM, and Best Dance Choreographer to Bougainvillaea.

The awards also recognised behind-the-scenes talents like Best Sound Design, Best Makeup Artist shared by Ronex Xavier for the films Bougainvillaea and Bramayugam, Best Costume by Rekhachithram, and Best Production Design.

Other categories, such as Best Playback Singers (male and female), Best Editing, Best Background Music, Best Lyrics, and Best Cinematography, highlighted the diverse skills involved in film production. The awards also honoured screenwriting and storytelling with Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay.

Young talents were celebrated too, with Best Child Actor awards for both boys and girls, and performers in supporting roles recognised as Best Character Artists (female and male). The 55th Kerala State Film Awards showcased the vibrant and talented Malayalam film industry, honouring creativity and excellence across all aspects of cinema.
