Actress Keerthy Suresh has spoken about facing insecurity from some male co stars during her film career. In an interview promoting her upcoming series Akka, she said certain actors made her doubt herself when she was working hard to grow in the industry. She later realised their behaviour was not her fault.
Keerthy said she had worked with male actors who seemed uncomfortable with a heroine’s success. Their behaviour sometimes affected her confidence, leaving her confused at first. Over time, she understood that the problem came from their own insecurity. Her comments have sparked discussion about how women are treated on film sets.
Actress Radhika Apte, who also took part in the conversation, said insecurity among some male actors does exist, but not everyone behaves that way. She pointed out that many people support women as equals. Radhika also said women should not assume that other women will always support them, while noting that more women now work behind the scenes.
Akkka stars Keerthy as Bhavani, a powerful gangster, and Radhika as Rudra. Set in the fictional town of Pernuru in 1980s South India, the crime action thriller follows a world where women hold power across generations. Directed by Dharmaraj Shetty and produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, the series is set to stream on Netflix from October 30.
